Haryana Chief Minister Horticulture Insurance Scheme 2025 launched: Compensation up to Rs 40,000 per acre will be given for crop loss

The Haryana government has launched the Chief Minister's Horticulture Insurance Scheme (MBBY) for farmers who cultivate fruits, vegetables, and spices.

The scheme covers a total of 46 crops, including 14 vegetables, two spices, and more than 30 other crops. The scheme aims to protect farmers from losses caused by natural disasters and adverse weather.

This scheme, which has been in effect since January 2021, now covers both Rabi and Zaid crops. This insurance covers farmers for losses caused by weather-related disasters such as hailstorms, temperature fluctuations, water scarcity, and fire.

To make the scheme more effective, the Haryana government launched the MBBY portal in March 2022, where farmers can opt for the insurance plan while registering their crop and area. Applications can also be made on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora (MFMY) portal.

Four important initiatives of the government are included under this scheme:

  1. To encourage farmers to take up horticultural crops so as to increase their income.
  2. To provide financial compensation for crop losses due to natural calamities.
  3. To encourage farmers to adopt new and modern agricultural techniques.
  4. Efforts to diversify crops in place of paddy and wheat.

Payments and compensation

The sum insured for vegetables and spices is ₹30,000 per acre, with farmers paying a premium of 2.5%, or ₹750.

For crops, the sum insured is ₹40,000 per acre, with a premium of ₹1,000. Compensation ranges from ₹15,000 to ₹40,000 per acre, depending on the crop loss.

Farmers can gain both crop protection and financial stability under this scheme. To take advantage of this scheme, farmers should register as soon as possible on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal.
