News, Digital Desk- ( CGHS) Recently, the central government has given two major gifts to its employees. First, dearness allowance (DA) was increased.
Next, changes were made to the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), revising the package rates for approximately 2,000 medical procedures.
This decision will take effect on October 13, 2025. This initiative will benefit millions of central government employees and pensioners, who will no longer have to pay out-of-pocket for treatment.
What was the complaint?
For years, employees and pensioners had complained that CGHS-accredited hospitals were refusing to provide cashless treatment. Patients had to pay out of pocket and then wait months for reimbursement.
Hospitals argued that the government-set rates were outdated and low, and that payments were not received on time. For these reasons, they were reluctant to offer cashless services to CGHS cardholders.
Now, under the new reforms implemented by the government, new rates have been set based on the category of hospitals and cities.
Rates in Tier-II cities will be 19% lower than the base rate, while rates for Tier-III cities will be 20% lower. NABH-accredited hospitals will be paid the base rate.
Non-accredited hospitals will receive 15% lower rates, while Super Specialty Hospitals with more than 200 beds will receive 15% higher rates.
What is the purpose of the amendment?
The CGHS amendments aim to provide hospitals with better rates and enable them to seamlessly offer cashless services to CGHS beneficiaries. This will free patients from advance payments and complex reimbursement processes.
Currently, this facility is available in approximately 80 cities across the country, benefiting over 4.6 million central government employees, pensioners, and their family members. This initiative ensures convenience and relief.
